Brian Wilson – Brian Wilson
Released: 1988
Label: Sire/Reprise Records
Notes:
Front cover: This is in really good shape. You can see the shiny sheet music in the background on the left side. Glad that scanned well. I wasn’t sure it would. This is an absolutely fantastic cover and one of my favorites of all time.
Sleeve-front: These sleeves have been used a bit but I went back and re-did these years after the fact (they were first posted when the site opened about ten years ago) and I was able to solve all of their problems with a better scanner and more knowledge.
Sleeve-back: This was also problematic the first time I tackled this album but full restoration was possible with the superior scanner, better tools, and more knowledge of how to use them. I’ve revisited all of the older albums and similarly improved them over time. This should be the last of the “old batch”.
Back cover: This also remains in excellent shape. Minor cleanup but that’s it.
Labels: Labels are in great shape too. Just removed the spindle hole, scanned, and uploaded.
Note about credits: The writing credits featuring therapist Eugene Landy and Alexandra Morgan were found to be apocryphal and have been removed from all future editions of this album. In fact, according to Andy Paley, the credits in general are almost completely inaccurate (save the guest artists and most of the technical credits) so I wouldn’t put too much stock in them. The “executive producer” credit, garishly displayed throughout the packaging, is sadly accurate as Landy was a constant thorn in the side of anyone who tried to get near Brian and he exerted control wherever possible. He even tried to submit an entirely remixed version of the album to Sire but Lenny Waronker, chairman of Warner Bros., stood in his way and refused to allow its release.
These credits are part of the original package and as there’s no way to remove them convincingly, they are presented as such for purely historical purposes.
